As a Senior Consultant for, and Board Advisor to WaveCapital Partners, LLC, John Uhlein brings over 25 years of experience as a lawyer, banker, advisor and investor across many sectors to the firm.
Most recently, John led a small merchant banking organization, both investing in and advising companies in the growth stage seeking capital, in such areas as fintech, specialty finance, real estate and the food and beverage sectors.
Previously, John worked at Ambac Financial Group for over 15 years as Executive Vice President and was Founder and Chairman of Ambac U.K. Ltd. In his last position, he ran the U.S. Structured Finance and Emerging Markets business, which included Student Loans, Mortgage related products, Credit Cards, Utilities, Insurance, Conduits, Project Finance, and Commercial Loans (including small and big ticket leasing).
John was also an investment banker at Kidder, Peabody & Co. and started his career as a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP both in the asset securitization areas.
John is very passionate about open land space and currently serves on the board of his town’s local land trust. He also served on the board at Hartwick College and on the Advisory Board of Syracuse University College of Law, as well as the boards of the American Securitization Forum (ASF) and Prep for Prep, which helps NY inner-city children academically.
John received his B.A. from Hamilton College and JD / MBA from Syracuse University. John is a member of the New York State Bar and also holds Series 7 and 63 licenses. He is an Adjunct Lecturer at New York University, teaching three courses on finance, and a frequent speaker and author on matters of risk and asset securitization.
